Definition#
The trough grinder of Tang and Song tea: a wheel on an axle rolled back and forth in a narrow trough to reduce roasted cake tea to powder before sieving. Tang troughs were rectangular and Song ones boat-shaped; wood, stone, ceramic and metal were used. Lu Yu specifies a wooden mill; Cai Xiang prefers silver or iron.
