Notes#

Founded in February 1950 as the Fuzhou branch of the China Tea Company. It is now a state-controlled limited company held by 中国茶叶股份有限公司 (COFCO). The 蝴蝶 (Butterfly) trademark was registered on 1 September 1961 (no. 41972) as an export jasmine-tea mark and extended to all teas on 31 October 1979. From 2008 the company moved its domestic range to the Butterfly brand. MOFCOM credits it with developing new-process white tea (新工艺白茶) at the Bailin primary factory in Fuding in 1964-1968. It also says the company spread heated withering of white tea from about 1964, and built China's first automated oolong blending lines in the 1990s, with Mitsui. Its Fuzhou plant is the 福兴 processing factory. Base companies include 建瓯中茶茶业有限公司 and 松溪瑞茗茶业有限公司. The China Co-op profile (2010) lists Wuyi rougui and Wuyi yancha among its oolongs, and a joint-venture hotel, 武夷茶苑大酒店. The company is recorded here mainly to keep it apart from the Xiamen company and its 海堤 brand.
