Notes#
Its source population descends from tea seeds collected in Qimen, Anhui, and sent to Yuchi in 1938. TTES 23 is a selected cultivar from that population, not the entire Qimen landrace and not a guarantee that a finished tea is Keemun.
The breeding paper describes a vigorous shrub, early sprouting, downy buds and strong disease and drought resistance. Its black tea has orange-red liquor and a floral-fruity aroma, with some astringency.
The detailed 2018 breeding paper and the institute’s current black-tea overview agree on 2018 naming. An institute summary table lists 2017; this entry follows the explicitly dated breeding paper rather than silently treating the two dates as equivalent.
