灌木
Term · Raw material
bush
Literal meaning
'clustered (bushy) tree'; shrub
Definition#
In botany a shrub: a woody plant with several stems from the base (the Chinese dictionary gloss at zdic is 丛生之木, 'wood growing in clumps'). For tea it is the usual cultivated form: Chinese Wikipedia lists 灌木型 among the tea-plant habits ('some cultivated tea plants') and notes that cultivated tea is pruned, so most bushes stand about 0.8-1.2 m high. English Wikipedia describes the Chinese plant as 'a small-leafed bush with multiple stems' and says tea plants grow into a tree if left undisturbed. In trade it is the counterpart of 乔木. It is not a quality category.
