Red Mark
Literal meaning
red print / red mark
Definition#
Red Mark: raw pu'er cakes of the 1940s–1950s state era, sold under the 中茶 eight-中 logo with the central 茶 printed in red, and attributed by auction houses to the Fohai/Menghai factory of Fan Hejun's era. It is the founding product of the 印级 (mark-era) category. Wrappers are hand-printed in traditional characters on hand-made paper; sub-types include early large-character Red Mark (早期大字紅印), a "one red dot" printing and unwrapped Red Mark.

Common confusions#
- Often said to be "tribute tea"; a Taiwan former factory account finds no historical support for this.
- Red Mark recipes and leaf origins are undocumented, so "Red Mark" names a wrapper type, not a recipe.
- Babelcarp glosses 印 as "mark or chop"; it is the printed logo, not a stamp on the cake.
