Common confusions#
- Logo on old wrappers does not mean the tea is from one factory.
- 'CNNP' (old corporate abbreviation) puzzles readers.
- The logo date is given as 1951 (Xinhua, zh.wikipedia: "red eight-zhong" introduced as New China's first tea trademark) but as a 1952 registration (no. 8071) by Sohu and a 1952 adoption by zh.wikipedia's Xiaguan article.
- 八中茶 (Babelcarp) is the collectors' name for the logo and for teas carrying it; Kunming Tea Factory's main brand was 八中茶 before it moved to 吉幸 and 金鸡 for export.
- China Tea Company (中国茶叶公司, publicly signed 中国茶业公司) was approved on 23 November 1949 with Wu Juenong as first general manager; the 中茶 (红八中) trademark dates from 1951 (Xinhua 2024).
