孟臣罐
Term · Teaware
Mengchen pot
Literal meaning
Mengchen jar
Definition#
Chaozhou name for the small brewing pot (冲罐) of gongfu tea, after the Yixing potter Hui Mengchen (惠孟臣), known for small pots. His dates are uncertain; Wikipedia cites a pot inscribed with a Tianqi 丁卯 date (1627) and alternatives in the Kangxi or Yongzheng reigns. The Taiwan writer Lian Heng's line 茗必武夷,壶必孟臣,杯必若深 made the name proverbial.
