Definition#
China's national occupation of professional tea taster. The national occupational skill standard (revised and issued on 9 March 2020 by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security with the All-China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives and others) has five levels, from junior tea taster (level 5) to senior tea-tasting master (level 1). The 2022 Occupational Classification Dictionary renamed the occupation 评茶师 and added the work type 茶叶拼配师 (tea blender, code 6-02-06-11-001 in the draft standard).

Common confusions#
- Not 茶艺师 (tea-art performer), a separate occupation.
- Within the 2020 standard 评茶师 was also the level-2 title; since 2022 it is the name of the whole occupation.
- In Taiwan the comparable credential is the five-level tea sensory evaluation certificate (茶葉感官品評能力鑑定) run by the tea research station.
