Term · Roasting
light roast
Literal meaning
light + fire
Definition#
Light roast. For Wuyi yancha, GB/T 18745-2026 specifies 4–8 h at 100–120 °C in clause 7.3.2.2.3. These are processing conditions, not a measurement of the finished tea's moisture or a universal storage-life prediction. The edition takes effect on 1 April 2027; its labelling clause does not require a roast-level declaration.

Common confusions#
- Russian shops label light roast «Сяо Хо» (小火, 'small fire'), a different Chinese word from 轻火.
- GB/T 18745-2026 (7.3.2.2.3) gives light fire as 4–8 h at 100–120 °C. It is a process range, not a label requirement: early explainers said the roast level would become a mandatory label item, but the published labelling clause does not require it.
