Literal meaning
mountain + rhyme
Definition#
'Mountain rhyme': the lingering, site-linked character prized in Phoenix dancong, above all from high, old bushes; it plays the role that rock rhyme plays for Wuyi and Guanyin rhyme for Tieguanyin. Trade writing uses it often (Jiemian's aroma-type guide credits it to the gardenia and osmanthus types), but no standard defines it; the 2021 Chaozhou standards use 丛韵, 蜜韵 and 韵味 instead.

Common confusions#
- GB/T 14487-2017 defines 山韵 (2.5.31, English equivalent "high mountain flavor character") for the high-mountain character of dancong, beside 丛韵 (2.5.32), as quoted clause by clause in the Guangdong dancong terminology draft; the Chaozhou product standards define Phoenix dancong by 丛韵 and 蜜韵 instead.
- Outside the standard it is loose tasting vocabulary; treat it as a taster's impression, not a grade.
