Notes#

Leaf and manufacture#

The monograph describes tender spring material, principally a bud and one leaf. Spreading is followed by pan fixation, rolling, shaping and successive drying operations. The leaf is worked into compact strips, rather than flattened like Longjing. Its account includes both local seed-grown plants and introduced cultivars. No single cultivar defines the whole tea.

Historical and current names#

The book treats the tea under the heading Gold-medal Huiming. The current geographical-indication standard uses the simpler name Huiming tea. The longer historical name should not be read as evidence that a particular packet has itself won an award.
