The CAAS Tea Research Institute identifies Longjing 43 as Camellia sinensis var. sinensis and traces it to the Xihu Longjing population. Its 2020 genome report describes early sprouting, good tea quality and stress resistance.
Keep the selected cultivar separate from the genetically diverse seed-grown population from which it arose. A cultivar name alone does not establish a finished tea’s geographical origin or processing style.
