对夹叶對夾葉
Term · Raw material
paired-leaf shoot
Literal meaning
paired + clasping + leaf
Definition#
A shoot whose growing point has stopped, so that it ends in two top leaves around a dormant bud instead of an active bud. It is common in later flushes and in oolong material; one trade article calls it ideal oolong raw material, and grading tables count it separately (e.g. 同等嫩度对夹叶).

Common confusions#
- 夹 is read jiā here (press from both sides), not jiá or gā (MDBG). The traditional form follows the one-to-one correspondences 对→對, 夹→夾, 叶→葉; no Taiwan page was found writing it.
- The dormant terminal bud of such a shoot is a 驻芽 (zhùyá); GB/T 30357.1-2013 names leaves, 驻芽 and tender stems as the raw material of oolong, and the open-face stages (开面) are measured after it forms.
