Definition#
How young and tender the raw material is: the share of buds, the softness and fineness of the leaf, and downy hair on the buds. It is judged on the dry leaf and checked again on the infused leaf. Teaching texts call it the key appearance factor, because tender leaf holds more soluble matter and rolls into finer shapes.

- Tenderness is not grade: a grade (级别) combines tenderness with shape, colour and cleanliness.
