Common confusions#
- German shops alternate Sorte, Kultivar and Varietät (shuitang.ch: Kultivar; tee-shop.at: Teepflanzenvarietät); botanically 'Varietät' is a rank above cultivar, so Kultivar is cleaner.
- '品种大红袍' (cultivar Dahongpao) vs '拼配大红袍' (blend) is a key market distinction hidden by translating both as 'Da Hong Pao'.
- National tea cultivars: the first batch (1985; some sources say 1984) had 30, 17 seed-propagated and 13 clonal; ten batches to 2014 total 134, 117 clonal and 17 seed-propagated (Tea Research Institute review, 2022).
