Definition#
A Wuyi name used for the historic Jiulongke mother bushes, teas marketed as pure-cultivar Da Hong Pao, and blended products. Common confusions#
- The standard's blended-product definition does not authenticate a retail tea's cultivar, garden or mother-bush ancestry.
- Russian Wikipedia classifies it among oolongs of 'medium fermentation'; German Wikipedia calls it 'halbfermentiert' — both use the fermentation misnomer.
- GB/T 18745-2026 (term 3.3) defines 大红袍 as Wuyi yancha blended and bulked (拼配匀堆) from semi-finished tea of several clonally propagated cultivars; it was ungraded in GB 18745-2002 and has three grades (特级, 一级, 二级) in 2006 and 2026.
