Term · Cultivars
mother bush
Literal meaning
mother + tree
Definition#
The original bush from which a clonal cultivar was propagated. In Wuyi it refers above all to the mother Dahongpao bushes on the cliff at Jiulongke (九龙窠), now protected heritage plants whose harvest stopped in 2006 (some sources say 2007). Any modern 'mother-tree Dahongpao' offer is at best from cuttings.
