Definition#
A named, selected Wuyi tea bush and, by extension, its propagated cultivar and tea. In GB/T 18745-2026, term 3.4 defines the product category as yancha made from a clonally propagated elite single plant or one cultivar, excluding Rougui and Shuixian. The edition takes effect on 1 April 2027. Mingcong is not a geographic tier.

Common confusions#
- The 2026 edition uses 名丛. This verifies its wording, not the first historical use of that written form.
- Jiemian's tier list treats 名丛 as a site tier above zhengyan; in the standards it is a cultivar/product category, not a place.
- The EU GI text renders it 'Famous Species', which misleads botanically.
- GB/T 18745-2026 (term 3.4) defines 名丛 as yancha from a clonal elite single bush or single cultivar, excluding Rougui and Shuixian; it has one set of requirements and no grades.
