Names and ambiguities#

Tianxin as place vs. Tianxin as producer

'Tianxin' names the rock, the temple (Tianxin Yongle Chan Temple) and the village and cooperatives nearby. Jiulongke and the DHP mother trees lie within the Tianxin area. A 'Tianxin' label can therefore point to the scenic core or simply to a village producer.

Notes#

Tianxin Yongle Chan Temple (天心永乐禅寺) stands on high ground on the north side of Jiulongke and is a Wuyishan municipal protected heritage site (zh Wikipedia). Community sources say it was founded in the Tang and is the largest Buddhist temple in the scenic area, reached via Jiulongke and Dakengkou, and that the Da Hong Pao mother bushes once belonged to it. In the best-known legend a Tianxin Temple abbot cures a sick scholar with tea from the cliff bushes; the scholar later cures the empress and drapes a red robe over the bushes. The 1927 '大红袍' inscription on the cliff is attributed to a Tianxin monk. Xinhua's 2006 report places the mother trees in 'Tianxin Rock's Jiulongke'. Tianxin village (天心村), a short distance to the north-east, is home to many family producers; Foguo Yan (Amituo Yan) lies near it.
