At a glance#
- Output
- 'Over 3,000 t a year' in a March 2021 report; the year is inferred as about 2020. This looks low against 63,500 mu and the city's 25,100 t (2023), so it may count only part of production. Treat as a floor.

Notes#
Xingcun lies on the upper Nine Bends River at the western edge of the Wuyi scenic area, and the bamboo rafts on the Nine Bends start here. It has 1 community and 15 administrative villages: Liyuan, Liqian, Lixin, Fenglin, Jukou, Jingshui, Xingcun, Qianlan, Huangcun, Caodun, Chaoyang, Hongxing, Zhoutou, Chengdun and Tongmu, plus the overseas-Chinese farm area.
Tea trade: it was an important market on the Ten-Thousand-Li Tea Road. The saying 茶不到星村不香 ('tea isn't fragrant until it reaches Xingcun') reflects its role as the collecting point for Wuyi tea. A travel listing claims over a hundred tea houses at its peak. Lapsang souchong was processed and traded here, hence the name 星村小种.
Today (2021): over 63,500 mu of ecological tea gardens (over 42% of the city's total), over 1,500 tea factories, over 3,000 t of tea a year, and crude-tea value of nearly 860 m yuan. Notable sites include the Yanzike (燕子窠) ecological demonstration garden (over 300 mu, cover-cropped with rapeseed and soybean) and the Huangcun cooperative. Jing Tea Shop describes the hills around Xingcun (e.g. Wusandi, Chengdun) as typical banyan country, and Huangcun as the start of the higher 'ecological' tea zone.
