Chen Dehua (陈德华) is a national representative bearer of 武夷岩茶(大红袍)制作技艺 (VIII-63), serial 04-1854, in the fourth batch. The Ministry of Culture notice for that batch is 文非遗发〔2012〕51号, dated 20 December 2012. According to ihchina, he graduated in tea from 福安农业专科学校 in 1963 and has worked in tea production and research since then. He mastered withering, shaking and roasting, oversaw a 烘青楼 building that demonstrates the process, and worked on cultivar research and seedling propagation. A vendor profile says he joined the Wuyishan tea institute in 1963 and became its director in 1985. That year he obtained five Dahongpao scions, cut from plants earlier transplanted to a variety garden, and grew them at the institute. He retired in 1997. 福茶之心 credits him with the first commercial Dahongpao in 1985.
