Notes#
This producer record covers the Jingmai factory and its pressings. Farmerleaf is also the vendor 'farmerleaf', which resells some teas from other producers (black, oolong, green and white). The factory sits on the ground floor of Yubai's family house in Jingmai Dazhai (景迈大寨), Jingmai village, Huimin Township, Lancang County. It is small: two wood-fired woks, a rolling machine, bamboo baskets and mats, and a greenhouse for drying in the rain. Pu'er is processed by hand there, along with some Moonlight White, black and oolong.
Yubai founded the factory to support her family's tea business; it began pressing cakes under her own label 景域天香 in 2015. William Osmont opened bannacha.com to sell pu'er to Western customers in 2011, and the pair created Farmerleaf in 2016. The office and storehouse are in Pu'er city, about three hours away, where a shop opened in 2020. They make tea at Jingmai each spring and autumn from ancient gardens and younger ecological plantations, and some gardens near the house are partly run by relatives. William documents the processing on Farmerleaf's YouTube channel.
