Mizhuan tea
Compressed black tea made from small black-tea leaf fragments, strongly associated with Hubei’s Yangloudong and Zhaoliqiao traditions. Its brick form does not make it a dark tea.

Notes#
Black tea as the raw material#
The Yangloudong geographical-indication requirements distinguish two processes: Qingzhuan uses dark-tea manufacture, while Mizhuan begins with black-tea fragments. These are prepared, steamed, pressed and dried. The specification describes a dark-red infusion and a firm, even brick with a clear impressed design.
Form and origin#
GB/T 9833.8–2013 treats Mizhuan as a named compressed-tea product. Rectangular bricks are traditional, but Zhaoliqiao also documents small coin-shaped versions. Its account describes sourcing material from inside and outside China for one commemorative product: a Hubei manufacturing identity should not be taken as proof that every leaf was grown in Hubei.
