Qingzhuan tea
Compressed dark tea associated with Hubei, including the brick-tea traditions of Chibi and Yichang.
Notes#
Making the brick begins before pressing. Hubei’s heritage account of Chibi Qingzhuan describes repeated heating, rolling and drying to prepare the rough tea, followed by pile fermentation, refining, steaming and pressing. The brick shape is the final format, not the process that makes it dark tea.
The word qing in this name does not classify the tea as green tea or oolong. Chibi is one named production tradition within the broader Qingzhuan style.
