Notes#
A regional Gongfu style#
GH/T 1178-2019 specifically covers Qimen Gongfu black tea. Modern Qimen products can differ in style and shaping; the regional name does not identify one producer.
From primary manufacture to finished grades#
Primary manufacture includes withering, rolling, oxidation and drying. Refinement then includes sieving, sorting, reheating and blending.
The national heritage account includes cutting and winnowing alongside sieving, hand sorting, reheating and blending. These operations help separate and assemble finished grades after the leaf has already become black tea. A cut leaf in traditional Qimen Gongfu is therefore not automatically evidence of careless manufacture; appearance needs to be judged against the intended grade and product.
The account describes distinct hand motions used in sieve work, showing how much of the finished tea depends on refinement as well as the earlier oxidation. Compare Dianhong for a broad Yunnan black-tea family and Zhenghe Gongfu for another regional tradition with substantial refining work.
