Notes#
A place name that travelled. Zhongguo mingchazhi (2000, pp. 212–215) distinguishes tea from Songluo Mountain from teas elsewhere that borrowed its name and manufacturing approach. A historical reference to Songluo therefore needs its own geographical context.
Plant and product. The book also describes a local seed-grown tea population. That plant population, the finished green tea and a modern producer’s brand are separate identities; the name alone does not identify a cultivar or authenticate a packet’s origin.
