Notes#

A flat leaf, a separate tradition#

The book’s Laozhu Dafang account describes fixation, light rolling, pan shaping and repeated pressing and drying. Tenderer material is associated with the traditional Dinggu selection. The resemblance to Longjing is a matter of shape; Dafang has a separate origin and manufacturing tradition.

Reading the Dafang names#

DB34/T 1354–2018 combines the earlier Laozhu Dafang and Yungu Dafang standards under Dafang tea and reorganizes the former product categories into grades. Historical subnames should therefore not be treated as interchangeable modern grades. The book also records Dafang used as a base for scented teas; plain Dafang and a flower-scented product are different preparations.
