Notes#
Development and name#
The Chongqing archives place its development in 1959–1964 and the adoption of the name Yongchuan Xiuya in 1964. This distinguishes the modern named tea from the much older history of tea growing in the area. Yongchuan Xiuya is a regional tea identity used by multiple producers, rather than one company’s name.
Making the needles#
The documented sequence is spreading, fixation, rolling, initial drying, shaping and baking. Tender shoots with a bud and a newly opening leaf are associated with the style. Shaping produces fine, straight, closely rolled needles; hand and mechanized methods both belong to its production history.
