A tightly rolled green tea from Yongxi in Jing County, Anhui. Its dense, dark-green pellets are often oval or kidney-shaped rather than perfectly round.

Notes#
Forming the pellets#
The traditional process uses selected bud-and-two-leaf shoots. Fixation, rolling and repeated pan work are followed by a prolonged finishing stage called bai laoguo. Gentle heat and repeated movement compact the leaves into small pellets. The book also documents mechanical adaptations; the tea’s name alone does not establish that a batch was entirely handmade.
A distinct rolled green tea#
Its pellet shape invites comparison with Gunpowder tea, but Yongxi Huoqing has its own local identity and manufacturing tradition. The word huo, meaning fire, belongs to its name: it is still green tea, and the name is not a statement that the leaves were smoked.
