Yuexi Cuilan
A green tea from Yuexi County in Anhui’s Dabie Mountains. Buds remain joined to their leaves, forming an open, orchid-like shape rather than a tightly rolled pellet.

Notes#
A modern creation#
The monograph describes development work in 1983–1984 followed by a breakthrough in 1985. The CNIPA account likewise places its creation in the 1980s, building on local Xiaolanhua techniques. Yuexi’s older tea-growing history should not be mistaken for an equally old history of this particular named product.
Preserving the open shoot#
The book describes a bud with two leaves, spreading, pan fixation, shaping and staged basket drying. The connected shoot and fresh green appearance are important features. The orchid comparison concerns form and fragrance, not added flowers. Yuexi Cuilan is a separate regional tea from Shucheng Xiaolanhua, despite their related technical background.
