老生茶
Term · Classification
aged sheng
Literal meaning
old raw tea
Definition#
Raw pu'er that has aged long enough to show the darker colour, softened bitterness and aged aromas of transformation. There is no fixed age threshold; vendors use it for teas of roughly a decade or more, and a group-standard draft scores it as a separate category from young raw and ripe.

Common confusions#
- Shops in all three languages blur 'aged' and 'ripe'; German 'gereift' is especially ambiguous.
- Age claims are often unverifiable; 'lao' is marketing language, not a certified category.
