Ipucha says demobilised soldiers of the 13th Army founded the state Liming Farm (国营黎明农场) in Xishuangbanna in 1955. It began tea production in 1964 with a processing group formed that March, and built a standard factory in 1984 that made green tea and then black tea. Trial pu'er production followed in 2001-2003. In 2004 the Yunnan Nongken (Agricultural Reclamation) Group took over operations and upgraded equipment and methods. The company now trades as 云南农垦集团勐海八角亭茶业有限公司 under the Yunken tea group, in Mengzhe Town, Menghai County. Its brand is 八角亭 (Bajiaoting, 'octagonal pavilion'), which Yunnan Sourcing says comes from a Buddhist story.
