Names and ambiguities#
Who created Jin Jun Mei
The company, China Daily (2021) and People's Daily Overseas (2024) credit Jiang Yuanxun and his team (2005). Sanlian names craftsman 梁骏德 as lead maker, with 江进发 and 胡结兴. It says the name was chosen collectively, and that Liang left in April 2008 to start his own business (his 骏眉梁 Jin Jun Mei is mentioned as genuine Tongmu tea). Sanlian calls Jiang 'one of' the creators. Credit is therefore shared or contested.
'Heritage bearer' wording
Notes#
Jiang Yuanxun (江元勋), styled the 24th-generation heir of Lapsang souchong (正山小种) making, ran processing at the Tongmu village tea factory from 1988. Sanlian says he resigned as its director in 1997 after a dispute with the provincial import-export company over purchase prices. He then founded 元勋茶厂: 1997 per the company, 'the following year' (1998) per Sanlian. In 2001 the works was on a Nanping support list, and its Lapsang souchong won a gold award at the Wuhu tea fair. In 2002 it became 福建武夷山国家级自然保护区正山茶业有限公司, later 福建正山堂茶业有限责任公司, headquartered at Miaowan, Tongmu village, Xingcun town. The 正山堂 brand was created in 2005 as its premium line.
In 2005 Jiang led a team, with craftsmen 梁骏德, 江进发 and 胡结兴 and following an idea from Beijing customers, that made the first few jin of 金骏眉 from Lapsang souchong buds. Trial mass production followed in 2008. Jiang later said he had missed the chance to register 金骏眉 as a trademark, so the name is used generically. The company reports US NOP organic certification in 1999 and EU (BCS) and JAS in 2000. It says it was the sole enterprise drafter of part 3 of the national black-tea standard (2012) and lead drafter of the 金骏眉 industry standard (2015).
Its 骏眉中国 programme sells regional black teas made with Jin Jun Mei methods in other provinces under '正山堂-X红' names. People's Daily Overseas notes that Jiang received the 陆羽奖 for the creation of Jin Jun Mei.
