Notes#

1

Huazhuan is not Fuzhuan#

The flower character in Huazhuan’s name should not be read as proof of Fuzhuan’s controlled flowering process. The regional classification lists the two brick teas separately.

2

The 1958 change of shape#

The monograph dates Baishaxi’s mechanically pressed rectangular Huazhuan to 1958 and presents it as a response to the labour and material demands of making large Huajuan cylinders. The change involved a different manufacturing format, not simply cutting a finished cylinder into smaller pieces. This is a documented factory development, not a claim that all cylinder production ended that year (p. 578).
