A regional dark-tea family from Anhua, Hunan, including several distinct loose and compressed products.
Notes#
Primary manufacture and pine-fired drying#
Research describes spreading, fixation, rolling, pile treatment, rerolling and pine-fired drying of the primary dark tea. Subsequent refining creates different products.
Hunan's supply-and-marketing cooperative describes traditional pine-fired drying after the initial pile treatment and rerolling. In that documented route, a pine-smoke note originates during primary manufacture, before later basket or brick processing. It should not automatically be read as evidence of age or a charcoal finishing roast.
Product branches and later transformations#
Tianjian, Gongjian, Shengjian, Fu bricks, black bricks, flower bricks and Huajuan are distinct product branches. Fu bricks are also made outside Anhua; the broader Fu-brick category cannot be defined by Anhua origin alone.
Primary pile treatment develops the rough tea; the controlled flowering associated with Fu brick tea belongs to a later, product-specific route. Other descendants, such as Anhua Qianliang tea, have different forming and drying practices. Keeping those stages separate avoids describing every Anhua dark tea as a golden-flower brick.
