Sheng Pu-er from the Jingmai area, whose old tea forests form a living cultural landscape of tea cultivation and community stewardship.
Orchid-like and other floral descriptions are common in the trade, but neither floral intensity nor body authenticates a Jingmai lot. Garden, harvest, manufacture and storage need their own evidence.
Jingmai Mountain contains two main village clusters. The Jingmai side (e.g. Jingmai Dazhai, Nuogang) is largely Dai, and Mangjing (Mangjing Shangzhai/Xiazhai, Wengji and others) is largely Blang. Vendors sometimes treat 'Mangjing' as a distinct origin and sometimes fold it into 'Jingmai'. Village counts in the heritage area vary between sources (8, 9 or 14).
UNESCO's statement of Outstanding Universal Value describes understorey tea cultivation maintained by Blang and Dai communities, with tea groves, protective forests and villages forming one managed landscape. Forest-grown leaf here can be the result of long cultivation and stewardship rather than a botanically wild population.
The 2023 inscription recognises a cultural landscape and its land-use system. It is not a quality certificate for every cake bearing the Jingmai name, nor proof of a stated individual tree age.
