Notes#
A different direction for Luye#
The eastern tea research branch developed red oolong in 2008 to give Luye a distinctive local style. Its orange-red infusion and emphasis on oxidation and roasting offer a different direction from the lightly oxidized high-mountain oolongs. Compare Taiwan high-mountain oolong.
Colour and flavour in the cup#
TBRS describes a glossy, tightly rolled leaf and a clear amber-orange to red infusion, with ripe-fruit aroma and a full, rounded taste. The dark liquor resembles black tea in colour, while the institute classifies the tea as oolong. It also identifies red oolong as suitable for cold brewing.
