Notes#
The tea base is prepared before scenting. Fresh jasmine is mixed with the tea, then removed after its fragrance has been absorbed. The national heritage account describes airing the warm mixture during scenting, followed by drying that removes excess moisture while limiting aroma loss. These stages explain why a finished tea can smell intensely of jasmine without containing petals.
The craft responds to both the flowers and the tea base: flower opening, temperature, moisture and layer thickness affect each scenting round. More rounds alone do not describe the whole process. Fuzhou is one regional tradition within Jasmine tea.
