Tea scented with fresh jasmine flowers, usually on a prepared green-tea base. Fuzhou and Hengzhou are distinct geographical traditions within this broader family.
This entry concerns tea leaves scented with jasmine. A drink made only from jasmine flowers is a flower infusion. Conversely, the absence of visible petals does not make a jasmine tea artificial: the traditional process can remove the flowers after scenting.
The tea base is made before scenting. Fresh flowers and tea are brought together while the flowers release their fragrance; the tea takes up aroma and moisture. The documented Fuzhou craft separates the flowers and dries the tea between stages. Flower handling, ventilation and drying matter alongside the number of scenting rounds.
GB/T 22292-2017 covers jasmine tea made from prepared green tea and fresh jasmine, including a preliminary white-champaca flower treatment. Its definitions distinguish baked-green and pan-fired-green bases and allow several leaf shapes. A pearl shape therefore describes form, not a separate origin or proof of a white-tea base. The underlying tea and the later scenting process are separate pieces of information.
A generic jasmine-tea name does not establish Fuzhou or Hengzhou origin. Those place names have their own production context and requirements. The place where the flowers grow, the origin of the tea base and the scenting location need not be identical; an individual offer should state which it means.
