Character#

Brown twisted strips and honey-floral character, with orange to orange-red liquor in local descriptions. Bitterness, sweetness and body depend on the lot and brewing; the honey-type/floral-type division in the 2024 GDAAS document is a proposed classification.

Names and ambiguities#

Overlapping areas do not establish dual eligibility

Fubin appears in the municipal Fenghuang Dancong area, and Lingtou village is also the named origin of Lingtou Dancong. Geographic overlap alone does not prove that a tea meets both product specifications or that its producer may use both GI marks. Cultivar, production and the applicable approval requirements must be considered separately.

Where is its core area?

Raoping sources place its origin and core in Lingtou village, Fubin. A 2022 Metabolites paper calls Lingtou Dancong a national variety whose core area is Fenghuang mountain, and sampled it mostly in Fenghuang town.

26

Sold as "Phoenix Dancong"

Retailers sometimes place Lingtou Baiye under a broad Phoenix Dancong heading. Check whether that heading describes a retail category, a claimed growing place or a protected product name. It is not enough to infer formal eligibility from Fubin’s inclusion in a geographic list.

Notes#

Place and propagated plant#

Raoping’s government places the origin in Lingtou village, Fubin town. The plant line is also grown in the Fenghuang area and appears in honey-orchid naming traditions there. That spread of planting material helps explain the connection with Mi Lan Xiang Dancong; it does not move the original village or make every honey-orchid tea Lingtou Dancong.

23

Two stages of protection#

The agricultural-product GI registration is dated 15 April 2013; Guangdong’s 2025 conversion into GI-product protection was reported by the Ministry of Commerce. Separately, CNIPA Announcement No. 633 of 30 June 2025 lists Lingtou Dancong among products whose applicant enterprises were approved to use the special GI mark. That announcement documents mark-use approvals, not the initial creation date of the GI or automatic approval of every tea from Raoping.

45

Aroma and growing environment#

A 2022 Metabolites study identified key honey-floral odorants in Lingtou Dancong and investigated differences associated with altitude-related environmental conditions. Its sampling in the Fenghuang area concerns the cultivar grown there; it is not evidence that the cultivar originated there instead of Lingtou village. The study supports looking at growing conditions and aroma together, not a universal rule that a higher garden makes a better tea.

6

Resting changes alongside agitation#

Zhongguo mingchazhi (2000, pp. 610–613) describes Lingtou processing as more than repeated shaking. As agitation becomes stronger, the rests grow longer and the resting leaf layer becomes thicker. The maker judges readiness through the leaf’s changed colour and shape and the emergence of a sweet aroma, then checks fixation using colour, feel, stem flexibility and smell. The distinctive point is the coordinated adjustment of motion, resting and leaf condition. This historical account should not be converted into a universal timer or an oxidation percentage for every Lingtou tea.

7

Early growth in the historical account#

Zhongguo chashu pinzhongzhi (2001, pp. 105–106) classifies Lingtou as early-sprouting and places the peak period for shoots with one bud and three leaves in mid-to-late March. This is the book’s growing observation, not a fixed annual harvest date. It describes the finished oolong with light floral notes and a stronger honey character (微花浓蜜).
