Names and ambiguities#
Notes#
A family, not one plant line#
In its 2021 technical account, the China Tea Science Society distinguishes a clonal Mi Lan Xiang line from Da’an Mi Xiang, Shitou Mi Xiang, Baiye Milan and Fanshu Xiang. It describes Baiye Milan as selected in Lingtou from a Fenghuang Shuixian population and later brought back to the Fenghuang area. This connects the family to Lingtou Dancong without making all honey-orchid Dancong the same cultivar. See Lingtou Dancong and Fenghuang Shuixian.
How the classifications differ#
The GDAAS September 2024 drafting explanation proposes a honey-type category using Lingtou Dancong, with Mi Lan Xiang and Baiye among its names, or other selected Fenghuang Shuixian lines with the required character. That proposed product category is broader than one line. It is draft material, not evidence that a final published standard has replaced the existing aroma-family descriptions.
Historical records#
The grading standard’s appendix draws on 2009 records of named bushes. These are useful for tracing names and local histories, but their reported ages and peak yields are not measurements of a current retail lot. A 2017 production-and-sales ranking is likewise a dated observation, not a current market-share figure.
A named selection in the 2001 record#
Zhongguo chashu pinzhongzhi (2001, p. 227) gives Milanxiang its own named-bush entry, separate from Lingtou on pp. 105–106. It describes the finished oolong as having pronounced honey and delicate orchid character (浓蜜幽兰). The sensory description concerns the selection recorded in the book.
