Character#
Floral, sweet and sometimes fruity in sensory descriptions; the literal name is not a description of a dung-like taste. Roast, harvest and brewing alter the balance.

What the name establishes#
T/CZTTBZ 002—2021 accepts Ya Shi Xiang as an established popular name. The alternative Yin Hua Xiang compares its aroma with honeysuckle. The exact mother-tree transfer story and the date of an organised renaming are less securely documented than the current use of these names.
Aroma research#
A 2026 Food Chemistry study compared Yashixiang, Baiye and Dawuye teas with sensory assessment and gas chromatography, including human smell detection at the instrument outlet. All three showed sweet, floral and fruity aromas at different intensities. The work identified compounds contributing to differences among its samples; it does not turn one chemical into proof of every Ya Shi Xiang lot’s identity, quality or growing place.
Loose tea and drinks#
Tea sold under this name has also become a base for lemon tea and other prepared drinks. Those are distinct products: a drink label does not specify the origin or processing of its base tea. Traceable lot information is needed to connect a particular product to Phoenix Dancong or a named garden.
