Market#
Misnaming to watch for: 'Wudong' on a label is not verifiable and is used for most high-grown Fenghuang tea. Some sellers give 1,498 m as the height of Wudong; that figure belongs to the main peak, 鸟髻 (1,497.8 m). 'Song-variety' (宋种) is a lineage name for clones of the old trees, not proof of leaf from a 700-year-old tree.

Age of the Song trees
中心岃 vs 中心坪
The grading standard writes the hamlet as 中心岃 (rèn). The form 中心坪 also circulates in trade writing. Which is the official toponym was not checked.
Notes#
Wudong is the second-highest peak of the Fenghuang massif, at 1,391 m (Chaozhou government). The main peak, 鸟髻 / 凤凰髻, is 1,497.8 m and the highest in eastern Guangdong. A crater lake, Tianchi (about 40,000 m²), lies just west of the summit. In the grading standard's appendix, the named bushes on Wudong sit in the hamlets of 李仔坪 (Liziping), 中心岃 (Zhongxinren), 下寮, 狮头脚, 湖厝, 桂竹湖 and 楚池厝, at about 850–1,200 m. The best known is the Wudong Song-variety tea (乌岽宋茶). It is also called 团树叶 (round-tree leaf) and, from the Cultural Revolution on, 东方红. It grew at Liziping, about 1,150 m.
Tradition says a villager surnamed Li selected it at the end of the Song dynasty. The appendix gives its age as 600+ years and its record crop as 8.9 kg of dry spring tea in 1963. A 2022 report says this 'Song variety No. 1' tree was over 700 years old and died in 2016 of root ageing, frost, pests and human damage, and that cuttings preserve it. The Song-variety Zhilan bush (宋种芝兰香) at Zhongxinren (~1,200 m, 400+ years) is listed as the highest-yielding of the old bushes.
