Names and ambiguities#

Origin village

zh-Wikipedia gives the origin as Wangjiayang village (汪家洋村) in Fuding. The Fuding GI specification says both Fuding Dahao and Fuding Dabai are native to Bailiu village (柏柳村). The sources disagree, and neither cites a primary record.

Notes#

zh-Wikipedia describes it as a small tree (小乔木型), large-leaf (大叶类), early-sprouting clonal cultivar. Buds break in early to mid March and one bud with three leaves peaks in early April. Yield is slightly higher than Fuding Dabai's, and the buds are yellow-green and quite hairy. It suits black, green and white tea. Promotion within Fujian began in 1958, and it was approved nationally in 1985 (GS13002-1985). The Fuding GI specification describes a tall, upright, semi-arborescent plant with a clear trunk, horizontal or drooping oval to long-elliptic leaves, and deeper green glossy foliage. Variety rank is not stated in the sources read.
