Names and ambiguities#

Lishan as a premium label

"Lishan" and "Fushoushan" are among the dearest names and are copied: the 2026 Chiayi indictment concerns packs printed 福壽梨山 holding mixed tea. The 2016 mark application defined a narrower Lishan than the broad "greater Lishan" zone.

Notes#

Growing sites and harvest frequency#

TRES places the 梨山 and 八仙山 tea areas in Heping District, Taichung, mainly Qingxin Wulong, making lightly oxidised half-ball tea. Fushoushan Farm began planting tea in 1980, and the Heping District office applied for a 梨山茶 origin mark in 2016.

The research station reports that cooler, higher parts of the Lishan area may have only two or three harvests a year. It qualifies this as applying to some sections, so it should not be turned into a uniform rule for every garden sold as Lishan. Its comparison with neighbouring Baxianshan also shows why a broad mountain name can conceal meaningful site differences.

Origin certification and its scope#

The official tea-quality portal lists the Taichung City Heping District Lishan Tea origin certification mark. Its general procedure checks local production, declared quantity against growing area, residue compliance and sensory quality, then controls label numbers. An application date and a completed registration are different events; the original registration date is not established by the sources cited here.
