Names and ambiguities#
Where 'Dayuling' tea grows
The Dayuling pass is described on the Ren'ai (Nantou) / Xiulin (Hualien) line, OSM puts the hamlet in Xiulin's Fushi village, and the Lishan tea article lists Dayuling in the broader Lishan zone of Heping District. Gardens sold as Dayuling may lie on either side. Recorded as reported, without boundary claims.
Notes#
The Lishan area grew up along the Central Cross-Island Highway (1960) as a temperate-fruit district; Fushoushan Farm (福壽山農場, opened 1957, run by the Veterans Affairs Council, 2,100–2,614 m) began planting tea in 1980, and its success spread tea across the area. One account credits Lishan pear farmer 陳金地 with planting Dong Ding seedlings at about 2,500 m, and links the term 'high-mountain tea' to this. Named tea localities: 佳陽, 新佳陽, 福壽山, 武陵, 環山, 松茂; the broader 'greater Lishan' zone adds 翠巒, 翠峰, 華崗, 碧綠溪 and 大禹嶺. The cool, low-sunshine climate is credited with sweeter, less astringent tea.
Dayuling (大禹嶺): the pass lies on the line between Nantou's Ren'ai and Hualien's Xiulin townships (road at about 2,565 m), and OpenStreetMap places the hamlet in Xiulin's Fushi village; Wikipedia puts the Fushi (Xiulin) gardens at about 2,100–2,600 m historically. In November 2015 the Forestry Bureau cut down the highest Dayuling garden, the Songlu garden at about 2,650 m, after a final court ruling returned the forest land to the state. How much other Dayuling and Hehuanshan tea land has been cleared is not established here. This entry records these locations without any claim about boundaries.
