The Toufen City Office describes its 椪風茶 as grown mainly in Xinglong, Liudong and Shanhu villages in the 老崎 hills, from 青心烏龍, without pesticides (organic cultivation). Leafhoppers (小綠葉蟬, also 浮塵子) feed on the shoots, leaving them short and curled, and one bud with two leaves is picked. The office runs an annual 椪風茶 tea-making competition and evaluation with TRES guidance, and repeats that a British queen once praised the tea as an 'Oriental Beauty' (legend). Toufen is about 78–90% Hakka.
