Character#
A milk-like note may be easier to notice in the warm infused leaves than in the dry tea. Taiwan’s Ministry of Agriculture recommends smelling the leaves after pouring off the infusion; the aroma develops through processing and is released by heat.

Notes#
Breeding and cultivation#
TTES 12 (臺茶12號, 金萱) is 臺農8號 (mother) × 硬枝紅心 (father), strain 2027. With strains 2028 and 2029 it was submitted for naming on 10 April 1981. TRES rates it vigorous, high-yielding and widely adaptable, suited to Baozhong, oolong and black tea. It is the second most planted cultivar in Taiwan.
Jinxuan is grown widely abroad: a 2014 Fujian trial at Nan'an tested 台茶12号, and Chiayi prosecutors in 2026 charged sellers over alleged repackaging of Indonesian 金萱 as Alishan tea.
Aroma is not an ingredient list#
Natural milk-like aroma can occur in tea made from Jinxuan, but 'milk oolong' on a packet does not establish the cultivar, origin or absence of flavouring. Those are separate product facts to verify. The station also documents black teas made from Jinxuan, showing why the cultivar name alone is not an oolong processing category.
