Taicha No.
Literal meaning
Taiwan + tea
Definition#
The numbering of cultivars released by TRES, written 臺茶N號 ('Taiwan Tea No. N'). Babelcarp dates the series to 1969 and notes that the first eleven never gained popular names. Key numbers: 12 金萱 (named 1981, line 2027, 臺農8號 × 硬枝紅心), 13 翠玉, 18 紅玉 (named 1999, a black-tea cultivar of Burmese large-leaf and Taiwan wild-tea parentage), 21 紅韻, 23 祁韻, 25 紫韻 (named 26 April 2021) and 26 豐鶴 (named 11 June 2024). Older cultivars such as 青心烏龍, 四季春 and 青心大冇 have no 臺茶 number.

Common confusions#
- TRES texts disagree on No. 23: 祁韻 in a 2024 MOA article, 祈韻 in the 2024 TRES teaching material.
- 臺茶 + number is a cultivar; 金萱 or 翠玉 on a label may also mean a mainland tea made from the same clone (Babelcarp).
