Flat shaping in a local craft#

A cultural-institute account of a Sanxia factory describes resting fresh leaf, heat fixation, rolling, breaking up clumps and drying. Longjing receives an additional machine-shaping operation during drying to create its flattened form, whereas the local Biluochun remains curled. This documents a local practice, not a compulsory schedule for every maker.

Shared name, separate origin#

Sanxia Longjing is a Taiwan regional tea. It is kept separate from Zhejiang Longjing and Xihu Longjing; the shared name and flat shape do not establish a common garden, cultivar or protected-origin status.

A historical description of the cup#

Zhongguo mingchazhi (2000, p. 949) already distinguishes Sanxia Longjing’s character from Hangzhou Longjing. It describes flattened, blade-like leaves with pale hairs and a yellow-green infusion combining bitterness and sweetness with a clean aroma. This is the book’s general style description, not a tasting note or quality guarantee for every contemporary lot.
